Info for Skip hirers
Delivery
Please ensure there is enough room for your skip to be placed. Our vehicles will also need room in order to place your skip where you need it.
Obstructions such as parked cars often cause delays, so you’ll need to ensure that the way is clear before delivery and collection of your skip.
Loading your skip
Smaller skips can be loaded by hand by using a shovel for loose material such as soil or by bagging all the material beforehand. Always wear protective clothing such as gloves when handling sharp materials such as glass, metal and laminates.
It is possible to use scaffold planks to form a ramp to the skip but please be aware of the dangers of slipping and falling off!
Larger skips may need to be loaded using a mechanical loader or grab machine. Ro-ro skips can be loaded by hand using a metal staircase.
Please do not overload the skip. Overloading can mean that we cannot collect it.
We cannot be held responsible for any personal injury or damage whilst using our skips.
Restricted Materials
We can take plasterboard but you must put it into separate bags on top of the rest of the material in the skip. Large amounts of plasterboard will require a separate skip.
We cannot take asbestos. This will need to be removed by a specialist asbestos removal service.
Items such as fridges, freezers, computer & TV screens, anything containing a hazardous material, chemical or gas, paint & felt roofing may incur additional disposal charges. Please contact us if you have any concerns about any of the materials intended to be removed before you put them in the skip.

What information does Swindon Metal Recycling need to know about your old car before we remove it for recycling?
We need to know if the car to be scrapped starts and can be driven or not. It doesn’t matter if not, we’ll deal with the removal of the car in any condition.
If the car to be scrapped runs but failed it’s MOT we will need to know the reason for valuation purposes.
Is the faulty car in one piece? Are all the wheels attached? Are any of the tyres flat?
Is the vehicle to be scrapped parked in a place where our recovery vehicle can access it?
If the scrap car has been in an accident or is accident damaged, was it written off by your insurer and has it been recorded by your insurance provider as an accident damaged scrap car?
If the car has been involved in an accident, been vandalised, stolen and recovered by the Police or has been involved any other criminal activity are the Police satisified that the scrap car can be removed and destroyed?
What documents do I need before Swindon Metal Recycling remove my car?
You will need the vehicle’s DVLA V5 Log Book and two forms of personal ID.
You are responsible for informing the DVLA that you no longer own the vehicle. This can be done online using the reference number on the yellow part of the logbook or by posting the yellow part to DVLA. You must state that you have “Sold the vehicle to a Motor Trader”, and NOT Scrapped or New Keeper. Please get in touch if this isn’t clear!
We don’t need it but you can leave any of the scrap vehicle’s service history in the glove box.
We do not need an MOT certificate.
What else do I need to do to my car prior to removal?
You don’t need to clean the vehicle but please make sure you have removed all personal items including any CDs and tapes you may have left in the radio player. Please remove any rubbish from the interior and the boot of the car. We only take the car, we do not take household rubbish.
How long does the scrap car removal process take?
Depending on the location and condition of the scrap car it’ll take 10-15 minutes to remove the scrap car & complete the DVLA paperwork.
The vehicle to be scrapped has been impounded, will you recover it?
Yes, but you’ll need to pay any release fees due prior to Swindon Metal Recycling recovering the scrap vehicle. We can’t take the car away and pay you if this has not been done.
I’ve lost the log book, will Swindon Metal Recycling still take my old car?
Yes, however Swindon Metal Recycling may ask you to provide some other form of proof that the vehicle is yours, e.g. an insurance document.
I’ve lost the keys, will Swindon Metal Recycling still take the car for recycling?
Yes, please tell us in advance and we’ll bring the tools to be able to enter your car prior to removal.
